Project Description:
Project objectives:
•An expansion of our current monitoring in this region will include the installation of an autonomous weather/camera station on land near the Eclipse Sound floe edge (we previously had a camera only at this site). This system will collect data on temperature, wind speed, wind direction, humidity and atmospheric pressure as well as photos. This information, combined with the acoustic data, will help build an understanding of the relationship between ice break up, climate change and increased industrial shipping on narwhal habitat. This project will have the added benefit of supporting Inuit hunters and community members with safe travel.
Summary of activities and rationale:
•A maximum of 5 people will be on site to install a camera/weather system in a location where we previously had an autonomous camera system. This is will take a few hours in total. The system will operate independently and will only need to be visited if there is an issue with transmission of data back to the community.
Project location:
•Bylot Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary – Cape Graham Moore

Greetings,
My name is Amanda Joynt, I am a biologist for Oceans Norht. We have applied to CWS for a permit for the autonomous weather station and camera on Button Point for the bird sanctuary. I have not been able to get a reply from the Mittimatalik HTO in writing, but they are supportive of the project through informal discussions . When we receive a formal reply I will send along their letter.
Also, we will be applying to QIA and through NRI for permits. Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide. Also, would you please ensure I have checked off the corrrect boxes for the Landuse&Licencing tab - I am not sure about that one.
Thank you and kind regards,
Amanda Joynt

Hi Amanda,
As discussed, please indicate the Authorizing Agencies from which you will be requiring permits/licenses for this project ( NRI, CWS, QIA...). Also please revise your responses to the North Baffin Questionnaire. Thank you, Goump

Hello Goump,
I have added the authorizations as well as redone the questionnaire. Thank you for the assistance - I was clicking on the title of the project instead of Load Application - now I know... :).
Also, the NRI application has not been completed yet, but I have emailed Mosha Cote and he is aware of the project. I will submit the application to NRI today.
Thank you, Amanda
