Project Description:
Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (Baffinland) submits this application for the renewal of the Type “B” Water Licence 2BE-MRY1421 (the “Licence”) for exploration and geotechnical drilling activities under the Mary River Exploration Project. Baffinland is requesting a renewal of the licence for a further five (5) years, from April 17, 2021 to April 17, 2026. The application encompasses activities on all of Baffinland’s mineral leases in the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut as depicted in the attached Figure 1. The extent of activities has not changed from the extent presented in the current Licence. The Mary River Exploration Project will rely in part on the infrastructure developed for the Mary River Project and permitted under Project Certificate 005 (as amended) and Type A Water Licence 2AM-MRY1325 (as amended), however all activities undertaken as part of the Mary River Exploration Project will be for exploration and geotechnical investigation purposes, and not production activities. All of the activities listed under this renewal application have been permitted in the past and are consistent with exploration and geotechnical drilling activities throughout Nunavut.

Environmental Impacts
Waste consists mainly of camp wastes and waste from drilling activities. Drilling waste material consist mainly of rock chips, mud, spent brine. These wastes will be disposed in a properly constructed sump or an appropriate natural depression located at a distance of at least thirty-one (31) metres from the ordinary high water mark of any adjacent water body, where direct flow into a water body is not possible and no additional impacts are created. All other wastes are managed under the existing Type A Water Licence 2AM-MRY1325 for the Mary River Project. All camp and domestic wastes will be transported to the Mary River Project camp site for disposal or backhaul.

Hi, Could you please indetify authorizing agencies for this application? e.g. NIRB, NWB, QIA, NTI, CIRNAC. Goump

2020-12-17 15:25:17, from: Christopher Murray
Hi Goump, The NWB is the key authorizing agency for this application, as it is a renewal of the existing Type B licence 2BE-MRY1421. The NIRB will also be engaged, however the activities considered under the Type B Licence are included in the existing Project Certificate No. 005 (as amended) for the Mary River Project (NIRB File No. 07EN012), and NIRB previously confirmedin 2011 that additional screening is not required for the previous renewal of the Type B licence. Land access will be required with both QIA and CIRNAC, and we currently hold a commercial lease and several land access permits with QIA and CIRNAC respectively. We also currently hold an exploration agreement with NTI. Please let me know if you require additional detail or if there is further action required from me to update the application. I can be reached at 647-472-9842 if it is easier to discuss. Thank you Chris

Hi Christopher, Thank you for the information. However, for us to resume the review, you need to log into your application, go to the "Land Use & Licensing" tab, then > "Authorizations”, input all the licensing requirements for this project (by adding them by agency) and finally save and resubmit to us. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. Thanks, Goump

Hi Goump, I've updated the authorizations section with the current licences/permits/leases/etc. relevant to the application, I hope this provides the required information, please let me know if there is anything outstanding. Thank you Chris
