3BM-COR1521 Municipal Water Licence Renewal (149589)
Proposal Status: Conformity Determination Issued
Project Overview
Type of application: Amendment
Proponent name: Elan Chalmers
Company: Government of Nunavut
Schedule:
Start Date: 2021-04-24
End Date: 2031-04-23
Operation Type: Annual
Project Description:
This application is being submitted for the renewal of water licence 3BM-COR1521. All previous information submitted for this water licence remains the same however a Type A water licence will reflect that the community relies on a raw water reservoir that must be resupplied annually at a water pumping rate that exceeds the Type B licence limit of 300 cubic meters per day for 24 days during open water, to ensure there is sufficient water throughout the year. The previous Type B licence was based on consumption of daily treated water which is below 300 cubic meters per day. There are no changes to water operations in Coral Harbour but the withdrawal rate from Post River will be considered for the new licence rather than the treated water consumption rate. The water treatment plant included under the previous renewal/amendment was commissioned in 2016. The municipal water supply is drawn from Post River and consists of a movable water intake, overland pipeline, reservoir and water treatment plant. Sewage is deposited in a permeable lagoon from which effluent passively flows into a wetland treatment area. The solid waste site is a fenced and bermed area that accepts municipal, bulky metal and hazardous waste.
Summary of Modifications:
The Project Description has been modified to describe the reason that the licence application will be changed to a Type A licence from a Type B licence. The Water Use has been changed from daily rate of treated water consumption by Coral Harbour to daily rate of withdrawal from Post River during the 24 day raw water reservoir resupply.
