Project Description:
The primary purpose of this project is to conduct scientific research on the impact of climate change on polar landscapes with a focus on permafrost, ground ice, glaciers and groundwater. This research is observational in nature and involves topographic dGPS surveys, shallow permafrost GPR surveys, ground and air temperature measurements, as well as assessments of ground ice, vegetation, glacier ice, and groundwater activity. The primary study area is Expedition Fiord on Axel Heiberg Island (79º25'N; 90º43'W), with secondary study sites on Axel Heiberg Island at Strand Fiord and Whitsunday Bay.
Summary of Modifications:
This modification includes the addition of 3-4 persons from Beach House Pictures for up to 6 days to document scientific activities associated with this Project.

Waste and Impacts
Environmental Impacts
The potential environmental and resource impacts of our activities are expected to be negligible. Our research teams are small, field trips are brief in duration, and our activities are designed to be non-invasive in nature. Research is conducted on federal crown land more than 450 km from the nearest community. Work at Expedition Fiord work will be based out of the McGill Arctic Research Station; work at Strand Fiord and Whitsunday Bay are limited to day trips, accessed by helicopter. The only potential impacts include minor ATV tracks during summer fieldwork around the McGill Arctic Research Station. All small fuel caches are stored in approved spill berms. Environmental impacts and proposed mitigation measures associated with all camp activities are included in the UPLOAD DOCUMENTS section.
